Kumaraswamy seeks Lokayukta probe against Yeddyurappa

As the BJP government in Karnataka decided to slap a criminal defamation case against him, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Friday demanded a Lokayukta probe against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on procurement of bicycles to school children and Bhagyalakshmi insurance scheme for girl children.

"Yeddyurappa as Deputy Chief Minister in my JD(S)-BJP coalition government threw all norms to the winds in the procurement of bicycles for distribution among girl students studying in government schools", Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister, told a press meet in Bangalore.

The JD(S) leader, who has been attacking his former deputy, with whose party support he became the Chief Minister also charged that Yeddyurappa displayed "undue" interest in releasing funds to an insurance company for the Bhagyalakshmi insurance scheme though the programme did not come under the departments held by him earlier.

Yeddyurappa had earlier claimed that the insurance scheme was his brainchild and had taken lot of initiative to implement it.

The BJP government highlighted "three scams" of the JD(S)-BJP government — allotment of 12,000 acres of land to a SEZ promoted by Skill infrastructure limited, Rs 87 crore Ring Road project of Hassan and recruitment of engineers and linemen by then PWD and Energy Minister and Kumaraswamy's brother H D Revanna.

BJP alleges scam in procurement of low-floor buses

The BJP has alleged that the Delhi Government procured low-floor buses plying on the Capital’s roads at higher prices.

Harshvardhan, president of the state BJP, on Monday demanded a CBI enquiry into the purchase of 625 non-AC low-floor buses purchased by the Transport department of the Delhi government.

“A bungling of Rs 150 crore has come to light as far as the purchase of the buses is concerned; we had filed RTI applications and the details reveal a scam,” Harshvardhan said. Alert cashier foils credit card fraud, 2 held

An alert cashier at a retail outlet on Sunday foiled the attempt of four youths to purchase goods worth Rs2 lakh using a fake credit card.

Two of them - Arvind V (25) and Praveen Kumar (24) - were arrested from the outlet, while the other two fled in a stolen car, police said. Those escaped were identified as Aslam and Suresh. All four were from Hyderabad.

According to Ashoknagar police, the accused handed over a credit card from HSBC to the cashier after picking up clothes and accessories from the Lifestyle outlet on Richmond road. On swiping, the cashier found the card was provided by Axis Bank and informed the police. The accused had picked up the goods in just two hours, police said.

The arrested duo, who was on a tour of the city, admitted they had used magnetic strips from other credit cards to make purchases. They used software to change the name on the credit card, police said.

Arvind, an MCA graduate, knew skimming - a term used to refer to the theft of credit card information. Police said he was the leader of the gang. Police were looking for the car, which had a fake number plate.

Ashoknagar police had arrested a Malaysian national in connection with skimming a month ago. In a similar case, nine software engineers from Kerala were arrested the past year. These men had changed names on credit cards stolen from foreign countries.

Three-judge panel arrives to probe cash-at-judge's door scam

A three-judge panel set up by the Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan arrived here on Sunday to look into the alleged involvement of a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the cash-at-judge's door scam.

The panel consisting of Allahabad High Court's Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale, Jammu and Kashmir High Court's Justice K S Radhakrishnan and Delhi High Court's Justice Madan B Lokur was set up by the CJI on August 26 this year.

However, Justice Gokhale who heads the committee refused to reply to a volley of questions by mediapersons in connection with the case saying, "Please leave us alone."

The Chandigarh administration had last month referred the Rs 15 lakh cash-at-judge's door scandal to the CBI on the ground that it may have inter-state ramifications.

The scandal jolted the judicial fraternity as it "involved" Haryana's former Additional Advocate General (AAG) Sanjeev Bansal and four others.

While the prime accused a Delhi-based businessman Ravinder Singh Bhasin is in CBI custody till September 30 in this case, four others including Bansal, property dealer Rajeev Gupta, Bansal's clerk Parkash Ram and a homeguard jawan Nirmal Singh are in judicial lock up.

Both the CBI probe and the inquiry by the judge's panel will run simultaneously.

The cash-at-judge's door scam is related to the alleged delivery of Rs 15 lakh at the house of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur of the Punjab and Haryana high court.
