Kumaraswamy seeks Lokayukta probe against Yeddyurappa
As the BJP government in Karnataka decided to slap a criminal defamation case against him, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Friday demanded a Lokayukta probe against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on procurement of bicycles to school children and Bhagyalakshmi insurance scheme for girl children.
"Yeddyurappa as Deputy Chief Minister in my JD(S)-BJP coalition government threw all norms to the winds in the procurement of bicycles for distribution among girl students studying in government schools", Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister, told a press meet in Bangalore.
The JD(S) leader, who has been attacking his former deputy, with whose party support he became the Chief Minister also charged that Yeddyurappa displayed "undue" interest in releasing funds to an insurance company for the Bhagyalakshmi insurance scheme though the programme did not come under the departments held by him earlier.
Yeddyurappa had earlier claimed that the insurance scheme was his brainchild and had taken lot of initiative to implement it.
The BJP government highlighted "three scams" of the JD(S)-BJP government — allotment of 12,000 acres of land to a SEZ promoted by Skill infrastructure limited, Rs 87 crore Ring Road project of Hassan and recruitment of engineers and linemen by then PWD and Energy Minister and Kumaraswamy's brother H D Revanna.
